Windows 8

I noticed today when I opened the services.msc console on my Windows 8 machine that it automatically reconnected to the last machine I was connected to. This was NOT the behavior of previous versions of Windows and could potentially cause serious issues if not noticed. For example you could be connected to a prod server accidentally restart a critical service thinking you are doing it locally. This persists through a reboot.

Typically you would see (Local) next to services.

Not sure if this is a bug or an intended change in functionality. I wish Microsoft would get some consistency across the management consoles. You can’t even get consoles like DHCP to reconnect without some hackery when most people are going to be connecting to the same DHCP servers every time. Not true with services. I suppose I should be using the new Server Manager console but I haven’t been able to get used to that thing yet. It reminds me of those SBS wizards designed for that accounting guy that got forced into the IT role because he “knows computers”.
